Menjelang sore, saya menerima sebuah bingkisan dari para “chickens” yang dititipkan kepada seorang teman:

The two chickens were on a serious mission: to find a birthday gift for a certain female human that, they say, “simply understands. Chick-a-boo: hint: this is a high praise coming from the chickens.

The chickens decided to go for a common passion: books. So the chickens searched high and low, beat the bushes, ruffled their feathers everywhere, annoyed everyone that crossed their paths, to find the right books for human. Chick-a-boo: translation: one quick visit to the neighboring Chiknokuniya. But I supposed that is challenging given the size of the chickens, not to mention the fact that the chickens need to cross the road–to get to the other side…

The Chicken, which is much more logical and claimed himself as superbly intelligent, picked the practical get-to-know art book. He said, “Knowledge is the most important prerequisite to success.”

The softer and more sympathetic Yellow Chickey differs silently. She chose the book on interviews with writers. “Learn from others’ experience,” she whispered. “We don’t have enough time to learn everything ourselves. And it’s nice to know that there are others like us.” Chick-a-boo: Let’s just skip the trouble of choosing and give both.

To their credits, the two chickens have chosen well. Both books make up a good combination. A kind reminder to the birthday human that her dreams are much closer than she thinks. A gentle nudge of soft feathered chicken wing to her whenever she is being her mellow-self that she always has friends–the books and the chickens too!–whenever the big girl feels alone in this big big world. Chick-a-boo: Yeah yeah bla bla. Enough. It is not a big big thing. Give the chickdee a break and let her enjoy her day.

At the end of day (as the sun sets and the chickens’ eyes get a bit blurry), the chickens get together, sing the human a birthday song, and wish her a life full of simple happiness and love. CHICKEN FLOCK HUGS!!! Chick-a-boo: Happy birthday! Never ever be afraid to BE A CHICKEN. And be a damn good chickeny chickerous one. Shake the feathers that your mama has given you, while you still have them.

Terima kasih, Chickens! 🙂

We tend to shape our memories of them based on the limited time we spend with them—and our memories of them, over time, will be replaced with one single word, one single interaction, or one single feeling.
Beradadisini Love Letter to Self
I took up a personal journaling project this week: writing a love letter to myself before bed. I work on a thin A6-size handmade paper journal I got from a paper artist, Els. The journal is thin and small enough, so it doesn't overwhelm me. It feels like I am only going to work on a small project.

Standing up for yourself does not have to look aggressive. It does not have to feel like a fight. It's not always about convincing others or explaining yourself and your decisions with the hope that everyone else understands or accepts your choice.
